#Yourlandman Johnny Klemme receives IASWCD Friend of Conservation Award
Indiana farmland broker and auctioneer Johnny Klemme recently received the prestigious Friend of Conservation award from the Indiana Association of Soil and Water Conservation Districts (IASWCD). Klemme was selected for this award because of his positive contribution to soil and water conservation efforts as well as his support of the local Soil and Water Conservation Districts (SWCD).
“Johnny Klemme is passionate about nature and the beauty that surrounds us,” said Liz Rice, Executive Director, Indiana Association of Soil and Water Conservation Districts. “He’s taken that passion and documented the collaborate efforts of farmers and landowners in the Big Pine Creek watershed and their love of the creek and clean water for the greater good of the community and state. His film and docuseries, ‘Stories of Stewardship,’ continues to educate a wide audience on the benefits of conservation practices. IASWCD is thrilled to be honoring Mr. Klemme for his continuous efforts in conservation outreach and support of Indiana SWCDs in that watershed.”
Klemme is a long-time advocate for soil and water conservation across the state. He takes pride in working with farmers and landowners to preserve and share conservation practices that contribute to the legacy of the family farm. Known as #yourlandman, Klemme helps landowners understand the importance of increasing land value, stewardship, and building farmland management strategies that provide both economic and environmental benefits to both the farmer and landowner.
“I’m honored to be recognized for my work and passion in the world of agriculture. The award reflects the ‘boots on the ground’ efforts in our watersheds by local farmers and landowners. These folks really deserve all the credit.” said Klemme, co-owner of Geswein Farm & Land.
In 2022, Klemme, along with Ben Massie, created an inspiring documentary, “Land Values,” which was part of the Smithsonian’s Water/Ways traveling exhibit. The film illustrates farming stewardship, best environmental practices, the importance of educating the community and preserving the land and has been used by SWCDs and other conservation organizations as an education and outreach tool, including support for securing grant funding.
IASWCD presents the awards during its annual conference in January.
