Overall, the average price of farmland was $12,061/acre and the price per productivity index point was $164.59 in 2024 based on the sales data. It is important to note that in 2024 there have been farmland sales as high as $16,040 per acre.

Recently, according to Land.com, about 483 acres of farms, hunting land, and other rural properties were listed for sale in Newton County, Indiana, with a total value of around $17 million. That puts the county at 67th out of 92 in the state for the amount of land currently on the market. Lake Village had the most listings, making it a hotspot for rural property sales in the area. Newton County covers 403 square miles, making it the 46th largest county in Indiana, and it’s located in the western part of the state near the Illinois border.

 

The 2022 USDA Census of Agriculture shows that Newton County contains approximately 434 farms, averaging around 439 acres – each – ranking it among the top 10 counties in the state for average farm size. The county is a strong producer of row crops: in 2011 it ranked 7th in Indiana for corn production and 35th for soybeans, reflecting its agricultural focus.
